Celeroton converters allow for the monitoring of the operating status of a turbo compressor. Hence, the pumping of the compressor and potentially resulting system damage can be avoided.

High speeds are not only required in applications where a motor is used to drive a compressor, micromachining spindle or a mirror. More and more high-speed generators, with speeds of 300,000 rpm and beyond, are finding their way into gas turbines for stationary or mobile power generation, also called gas turbine generator systems.

For the cooling of electronics in future satellites, heat pumps might be the solution. They can be built to be more efficient, lighter and compact thanks to Celeroton’s turbo compressors. This was proven in a series of experiments with ground-breaking results.

Since 2007, a research team at ETH Zurich, from which Celeroton AG spun out of, has been part of a scientific collaboration in the area of fuel cells with the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM). This collaboration has lead to the development of a 10 kW fuel cell model coupled with a Celeroton air compressor, that forms part of a Hardware-in-the-Loop test bench. Here we present an interview with two of UTBM’s scientists, Prof. Miraoui and Prof. Gao.
