In ultra-high-speed shafts, structural mechanics design and optimization are key. This includes allowing for manufacturing tolerances, temperature ranges and material parameter deviations in the design. Depending on the material, Celeroton works with different stress hypotheses and safety margins on the strength values and, depending on geometric complexity, with analytical tools or Finite-element-method (FEM) to calculate the mechanical stresses. Integration in the system design is essential due to the many dependencies on all other technology areas such as thermal design or rotor dynamics.
